This fascinating and wholly delightful tribal artefact demonstrates how central to the everyday life of the Baluch nomads are their world-renowned knotting skills. Virtually every item of furniture in the traditional nomadic tent is created from the knotted pile and complementary weaving techniques and, as this finely-crafted rug shows, the same care and attention is paid to the smallest, apparently least significant, test artefacts as to the major carpet creations of the tribe, the meticulous end-brocading on this example suggests it may have been made as a dowry work by a notably gifted girl weaver.
