Bidjar

The superb Kurdish rugs of Bidjar in Kurdistan represent a completely unique and instantly recognisable type of high quality West Persian work since the 19th century, most easily identifiable for structural reasons by their extremely dense, heavy 'feel' and remarkable durability, as well as their almost invariable use of the Gerus decorative scheme. In this exceptionally fine example of the type, every minute detail of the classic Gerus composition is picked out with brilliant intensity and definition, resulting in a work of utterly remarkable craftsmanship and unforgettable jewel-like beauty. This carpet was still woven near the village of Bidjar and is therefore of great interest to collectors.
