A highly unusual and most attractive nomadic tent rug knotted by a long-renowned Balouch sub-tribe who pasture their herds in the remote Adraskand valley in the west of Afghanistan. Of particular note is the focal design of insect designs delineated in a radiating scheme of concentric latch-hook ribbons, a composition usually associated with the Balouch and here, most probably, the result of tribal intermarriage. The beautifully muted palette and naturally lustrous pile wool characteristic of the Balouch group give the design its memorable individuality.
