Mehraban

The distinctive palette and composition of this delightful West Persian village rug, in conjunction with its vocabulary of patterning devices and their stylistic expression, indicate it originates from the Mehraban region of Hamadan, where a highly localised and greatly admired knotting tradition has survived intact from outside influences over a remarkably long period of time. Authentic examples of the type are seldom encountered, particularly of the notably elevated calibre of this outstanding item. The age-old arts of rural Persian rug making that have resulted in so satisfying a work are rarely found expressed with such overt flair.
