Woven by the Yuruk (="wanderer") nomads of Anatolia, this rare and magnificent kelim item represents the most highly valued classification of authentic Anatolian tribal and village rugs, and may be regarded as a masterwork of its kind. Combining a spare, immensely powerful totemic main design, a superb border arrangement of beautifullydrawn archaic palmettes, a luxuriously thick and lustrous pile of the finest nomad lambswool and, pre-eminently, a palette of magically rich, vibrant dye shades in which the yellow, red and midnight blue are remarkable, this is a genuine example of Yuruk work of major importance.
