An extremely beautiful all-silk Quom rug (about 750.000 knots per sq.m.), representing one of the most prized categories of Persian Art-Investment rug available. The wonderfully refined medallion composition and its delicate ornamentation is rendered in the unique dye shades and delicately modulated overall tonality which the master-weaver Ghoari of Persia’s Holy City of Quom has created specifically to bring out the iridescence of the pure Caspian silk pile surface, clipped very short and with perfect surface evenness. Particular note should be taken in this instance of the multitude of chromatic effects that the weaver has explored in the varying reactions between light, silk and the eye which occur when the work is viewed from differing directions. The pure silk masterworks of Persia have represented the highest and most precious form of knotted rug art since the earliest known Persian Carpets of the 15th and 16th Centuries. This aristocratic tradition has been inherited by the all-silk rugs of Quom, which comprise among the most sought-after and valuable of all Oriental rugs today. It is pure and supremely accomplished craftsmanship and ultimate refinement.
