A striking Persian village item from the prestigious knotting centre of D’Jozan, which lies on the border areas between the two great west Persian weaving districts of Hamadan and Sultanabad, and whose superbly crafted and seldom-encountered rugs in consequence reveal of mixture of the decorative and technical approaches which distinguish these two major regions. Employing a single-wefted Hamadan construction, the knotting is nonetheless substantially finer and more accomplished than the normally more robust, rural fabrics of Hamadan, producing a velvet-textured fabric closely akin to the most valuable Sarouk examples of the Sultanabad area. The D’Jozan design is highly distinctive, yet again an intermingling of the best Hamadan and Sultanabad stylistic approaches may be detected in the manner of its composition, as if it’s weaver had taken the best from both the provinces on either side, and integrated them into a coherent visual statement that is as unique in character as it is pleasing to the trained eye. An outstanding specimen of this famous yet increasingly scarce type. The rug has a lot of colour runs which are clearly visible on the photos.
