This exceptional Kashmir silk runner measuring 253 x 58 cm originates from Srinagar, the historic centre of carpet craftsmanship in Kashmir. This attractive runner made from fine natural silk combines high quality materials, traditional weaving techniques and an impressive decorative character. Its narrow proportions make it particularly suitable for hallways, entrances and elongated living spaces where standard rug dimensions may appear too wide. One of the most remarkable features is its beautifully executed garden design inspired by Hamdan compositions. The surface is divided into numerous decorative panels, creating a structured composition inspired by the famous Persian Chahar Bagh gardens. In Persian tradition these gardens represented harmony, paradise and idealised landscapes. The decorative fields within the runner contain stylised plants, floral motifs and ornamental elements which create an appearance similar to finely painted miniatures. Particularly striking is the elegant palette of soft pastel colours. Light blue, delicate turquoise, beige, gold, warm terracotta and subtle rose tones create a feeling of visual lightness and sophistication. Depending on the angle of light the natural silk reveals changing reflections and a luxurious sheen that enhances the details and colours. The rug was woven using the traditional Persian Jufti technique on a cotton foundation where two warp threads are knotted simultaneously. This creates a flexible yet durable structure. A timeless decorative silk runner with artistic character and refined craftsmanship.
