Ghom

Well-knotted Ghom rug with Persian design. Very good quality wool. The fringes are closed on one side and need to be cleaned. Otherwise very good condition. Very nice example of an illustrated Persian rug. From central Iran, knotted circa 1960. The inner red field is occupied by a round cartouche in the centre of which the young dervish Nur-Ali-Shah is seated on a leopard skin near a duck pond. The 4 dark blue corner gussets are also covered with portrait cartouches, flanked by a light braid decorated with branches of foliage that decoratively borders the field and the cartouches. Alternating cartouches, decorated with storks, trees and floral motifs, adorn the main border with a light background.
