Wiss, also known as Wisch and Wisme, is a fairly new type of carpet from the Hamadan region. Typical of these carpets are the gemotric shapes of the medallion and the filler flowers. The pile of the carpet is also relatively high. The Wiss is remotely reminiscent of Kazak forms. In the beginning, the Wiss were dyed with real madder (Persian for runass), they were called Runassi-Wiss. The madder root is expensive (it has to be 7 years old before good dye can be extracted from it).
